Lest we forget …

On a recent Sunday the University Pastor, as is his custom, spoke a few informal words of welcome prior to the beginning of the worship service,

As is not his custom, he proceeded a few steps down the center aisle and stopped at the side of a certain woman and asked her to rise. He explained that she has been a faithful participant in the worship activities of the chapel all its years, and although many have often seen her, not all have known her. Then he introduced Mrs. Sophia Heidbrink - "So", as most have known her - former campus social director, executive director of the University Guild, and executive secretary to former President O.P. Kretzmann during his entire tenure. Explaining that this was her 92nd birthday, he bestowed an appreciative and affectionate kiss on her cheek. Then, with the organist leading, the entire congregation sang an enthusiastic "Happy Birthday!"
