The Rev. John V. Coffield, a Roman Catholic priest, explained why he was leaving his parish, Ascension Church, in Los Angeles to go to Chicago: This is the strongest protest I know to take against the passage of Proposition 14 by California voters on November 3 and the strongest protest I also know to make against the continual reprimands and orders by the cardinal to maintain silence on the issue before, during and after the election.
