Submission Requirements

Midwest Social Sciences Journalhas the following general rules about the formatting of articles upon initial submission. Manuscripts must be typed in English, 1.5 spaced, with 1” margins and uploaded as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file.

Author(s) must provide the following:

  • Title: Concise and self explanatory title is encouraged
  • Abstract: Please limit your abstract to 300 words
  • Keywords
  • Full Text of Submission: Ensure that the body of the submission does not contain author names and affiliations as well as the abstract.
  • Cover Letter: Especially indicate how the work makes contributions to social sciences, including how it aligns with the Aims and Scope of MSSJ.
  • There are rules governing the formatting of the final submission. See Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for details. Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file, or a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.

    Figures and Tables

Photographs and figures must be high resolution digital files (300 dpi). Drawings, charts, graphs, and maps must be scaled to permit proper reduction without loss of detail.

While embedding images in the initial submission is acceptable, editors may request separate submission of images, photographs, or scanned images in high resolution JPG or PNG format for finalized versions. Figure and Table captions should be typed in the document, and not part of the figures themselves.

Tables should be kept as uncluttered as possible, and should fit normally across a page when typeset. Tables cannot be submitted as Excel files or graphics, but only as text.

    Publication Cost

There is no fee associated with the submission or publication of papers in MSSJ. The costs are subsidized by the Indiana Academy of the Social Sciences and ValpoScholar (Valparaiso University).

    Rights for Authors and ValpoScholar

As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), in consideration for publication of the article, the authors retain copyright to their work, and grant first serial rights to the Midwest Social Sciences Journal.
