In an article in the Sunday magazine section of the New York Herald Tribune for July 4, 1965, Richard K. Doan revealed action by the United Church of Christ to end discrimination against Negroes in the programing of certain southern radio and TV stations. The Commission on Religion and Race of the National Council Churches of Churches voted unanimously in June to support the efforts of the United Church of Christ.
