Fortunately, the annual conference of the National Indian Lutheran Board (NILB), was filled with exceptions. From Veronica Murdoch, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, and from other respected Native Americans, they heard the bad news:
Indians are still feeling the sharp sting of racism and injustice. Poverty and despair have left lasting wounds. And the church and government seem to persist in their apathetic and inadequate response.
