[From the Introduction] This history of real estate acquisition and building construction is organized into nine chapters which cover significant time periods in the history of Valparaiso University. Each chapter contains information about real estate transactions, new building construction, and, where pertinent, infrastructure development and campus planning. The listing of real estate purchases and building construction is essentially chronological. Valparaiso University real estate has been owned by four different legal entities. The first three chapters document the histories of the first three owners. Since 1925 the university real estate has been owned by the Lutheran University Association (LUA). The time periods chosen for the last six chapters are based on the flow of problems, challenges, and opportunities presented to the leadership of the university. To make the document more easily searchable, all historical information about a specific piece of property or a specific building is located, with only a few exceptions, at the chronological point of its first appearance.
