Abstract
This project stems from personal and professional associations and connections to The College Music Society's (CMS) document entitled, "Transforming Music Studies from its Foundations: A Manifesto for Progressive Change in the Undergraduate Preparation of Music Majors," which was presented at the CMS National Conference in November of 2014. This research bears the same exigence as the Manifesto, and seeks to identify the shortcomings discussed, and in turn, contemplate possible solutions on a working level in the colleges, universities, and conservatories in the Great Lakes Region of The College Music Society. Despite the broad focus of the entire research project, this presentation will bear a particular emphasis on Valparaiso University for the sake of the Celebration of Undergraduate Research.
