Abstract
Inside the classroom, personalities differ from student to student, which results in behavioral challenges for learners. The tier 2 interventions are known and used widely for individual students who are more at risk. Tier 2 interventions provide additional support for students who need more support to meet their goals socially, emotionally, and/or academically. The objective of Tier 2 is to provide students with the tools to self-govern, allowing them to move back into Tier 1. (Epperson, A, 2018). The objective of this research is the use of Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies, PBIS, tier 2 interventions using the daily check in and check out method. This simple, but impactful strategy is used to build positive relationships with students and foster better engagement in subjects. Intentional check-in’s with students will provide us with the data and show us the potential of academic growth inside the classroom. While collecting the data from the student, you will see what guides them as a learner, helps regulate their emotions, and how to be proactive with your interventions. Creating a safe learning environment for all students is key, and will bring physical and emotional belongingness in your class. All specialized interventions are more effective, and more durable, if they are done with school-wide behavioral expectations as a foundation. (Horner, R, 2008). Acknowledge your outcomes and share with your administrator to create the foundation of a positive learning environment and overall behavior.
