Biographical Information about Author(s)
Alyssa Meegan is a current senior in the Elementary Education program at VU. When it came to the selection of my topic, the way in which we teach social studies, mainly history, has always piqued my interest. I noticed through my own education that what I was taught about major historical events and leaders is often tainted when I gained more information as I got older. I knew that there was a way to teach culturally and historically accurate information to students that allows for a better understanding of the significance of these events, while also remaining age appropriate.
