Abstract/Excerpt
[Excerpt] Humans have a natural ability to adapt and to make new, for example, coming into uncomfortable places and making it into a home. However, this extent can be taken further. While people adapt to strange situations, it changes into something that is considered ‘normal’. When something is normal, it is hard to break the habits. In some situations, these habits can be negative, but are still considered to be normal and to be something done every day. However, in these situations, whatever negative action that has taken place does not make it less horrible because it is normal, but instead worsens the situation as a whole. In two books, When the Emperor was Divine and Rocket Night, people have to adapt to the worst situations that have been brought forth to them. They are forced to comply with outrageous laws and because this becomes such a routine, they find themselves normalizing these horrible conditions. The normalization that people feel they have to go along with is a very unjust way of thinking.
