Imagine being born only 150 years ago: the world would be nearly unrecognizable. The luxuries that have blessed our lives today would not even have been invented yet. Cars as we know them, small vehicles that get us places quickly and easily, would still be a few decades from being brought into the world, so buggies would be the main mean of transportation. Air conditioning would be about a half a century from being invented. Because of this, the only relief on those hot days in the south would be to jump in a lake or sit in the shade where it would still be, more often than not, scorching. It is amazing that less than 150 years ago life was so different; to us, it would have been so much harder. Life would still be as difficult today had it not been for those few intelligent people who thought of and invented the luxuries that give us the comfort we have today. These people are now called engineers, specifically, mechanical engineers, and because of their hard work they have been able to make people's lives easier and safer today and throughout history.
