Excerpt
Writing my first paper, "Love at the Winter Formal," was very different from what I had had ever written before. Up until then, I had always written the typical five-paragraph essay in the third person with the catchy topic sentence, thesis statement, antithesis, and conclusion which only repeated the introduction. This paper was fun, but it was difficult in the sense of writing it as a conversation from the perspectives of three characters I studied, since this was a style I was not use to writing. Because I raised and answered questions and had to put myself in each character's place, it helped me to understand that I was writing to learn instead of just writing to write. I was not just summarizing a story; I was creating my own story through conversation.
