The steady beat of the softball vibrated against the concrete wall as I repeatedly hurled the ball against it in an effort to regain my strength. Sitting twenty five feet way from the wall, on an old paint bucket, I protected my casted broken leg by stretching out to catch the rebounding ball. It was hard work after three and a half weeks without any practice. My doctor said not to practice, but I defied him; I couldn't lose any more time. I had to get healthy again.
