What is love exactly? Ben Gibbard wrote, "Love is watching someone die." I know that all too well remembering my aunt Mary passing away from us. Mary is a good example of philia love. She was an old bitter hateful person. I have not encountered lots of death in my family, and maybe that's why I feel the way I do about Mary, but I love her so much it's hard for me to find an equal to this love. Even though I did not know Mary for a long time that philia love gave us a bond that held something special between us together even though her views on many things I find inappropriate.
