This project is based on improving the functionality of the Solar Furnace (SERF) on the Valparaiso University Campus. This is my 4th project within the SERF, but my first related to improving the facility. The problem I am trying to solve with my research begins mainly with proving an efficiency increase by modeling the addition of a subsystem called a Compound Parabolic Concentrator (CPC). The modeling is done entirely with MatLAB, with previous research I have done involving frequent use of MatLAB I feel well suited to pursue this. My interest in this project is mainly based in working with the SERF, as I hope to one day work in professional research of alternative energy.
