In November, 1964, The Lutheran Witness commented on the Nobel Prize awarded to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There were those who immediately responded to the article, criticizing both Dr. King and the Witness for casting him in a favorable light.
It is to be expected that there will be some who take exception also to a statement made recently by the President of the American Lutheran Church, Dr. Fredrik A. Schiotz: "Many well-intentioned people have been critical of Dr. King, calling him a Communist. The time for indulging in this luxury is over. It is time for all who believe in justice under law to pray for and speak well of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference."
